I am unable to participate in the 5k or Fun Run,
but would like to make a gift.

About the Event

Emma Brown, daughter of Mike and Tracy Brown, planned, organized and executed the She ROCKS 5k & Fun Run in 2019 as a senior in high school. As a college student at UNC-Chapel Hill, Emma still leads the team as She ROCKS works to bring her vision to life for the Annual She ROCKS 5k & Fun Run on October 28th. Tracy was a founding Board member for She ROCKS. Mary Barto, co-founder and Board Member Emeritus, said “Tracy was the kindest person. She was always willing to stop and help with anything. She was instrumental in getting our luncheons started and lived the mission. Tracy was a friend to all.”

Meet Emma Brown

This is us celebrating my 5th-grade graduation. I truly treasure these cheerful memories, when we could live in the moment and not worry about what was to come. Practicing yoga together was one of the special memories that I will never forget. I found her strength and resilience so inspiring. She carried this determined attitude with her in every situation she faced. I hope to be just half as compassionate, graceful, and devoted as she was.

My mom, Tracy Brown, fought a 5-year battle with ovarian cancer. She passed away in February of 2015. Although we only had a short 12 years together, her memory is everlasting. After attending my first She ROCKS luncheon with my dad in 2018, I wanted to find a way to honor my mom’s memory. In March of 2019, I decided to organize the She ROCKS 5k & Fun Run to raise money for ovarian cancer research and create awareness in the community. I had never done something like this before and was nervous, but I knew I wanted to make a difference.

Brittany Fountain, daughter of co-founder Beth Quinn and 2020 She ROCKS Board Chair said “Tracy was instrumental in providing first hand knowledge and experiences in what the fight against ovarian cancer looks like. Her positivity and courage were both palpable and contagious to all who were blessed to know her. Those characteristics continue to spread throughout our community thanks to Emma and the 5k dedicated to her legacy.”

We look forward to seeing you at Long Leaf Park (formerly Hugh McRae) on October 28th or your virtual run photos with the hashtag #SheROCKSFunRun!
