Beth Quinn and Mary Barto founded She ROCKS in Wilmington NC in 2014. Beth had recently been diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She had been asymptomatic until the cancer was advanced and they wanted to do something for other women suffering from ovarian cancer. They realized there was little funding for early detection and alternative treatments. They decided to partner with the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center. Proceeds from fundraising events have totaled over $500,000 since they began in 2014.

In addition to a portion of fundraising dollars going to the UNC Lineberger Cancer Research Center to fund groundbreaking research for early detection, She ROCKS dollars raised locally are used in the Wilmington area as direct aid to meet financial needs of cancer patients through the Zimmer Cancer Center at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Most recently, She ROCKS has purchased new infusion chairs for the Brunswick Forest Cancer Center location.
